So I lost my iPod Shuffle somehow, probably stolen.

I'm planning on getting a good portable MP3 player, what brands do you suggest me to look for? NO-APPLE recommendations please. Shuffle is a great MP3 player, but iTunes just ruins it for me. and I won't buy the same model again.

I've looked into iRiver, great model designs, very portable. I haven't tested the UI yet.
Walkmans, I never touched the Sony ones, though I heard good things about them.

A friend of mine recommended me the Sansa Sandisk MP3 player, its very small, good portable device. You can increase the memory with an extermal MicroSD disk which is great. But its very cheaply designed, its cheap too so I shouldn't complain, it was around 185 AED when I checked.
Though the thing which was a let down for me was it does not support more than 128kbps.

Do other Mp3 players support more than 128kbps? or is it just normal?
Most of my songs are on mp3 format and are at least 192kbps.

What do you guys recommend from your personal experience, what brands should I trust, and remember No Zune or iPod recommendations here.
They might be cool, but its not what I'm looking for.

Go through the various forums in the ABI board. When you've made a decision on what player to buy, get a pair of In-Ear Monitor headphones. Average-decent cost $50+. Decent-good cost $100+. Good-great cost $150+. OMGWTF Sennheiser style sound cost $200+.

I went through a MILLION websites to research all kinds of things about MP3 players. What compelled me in the end to go for a Zune HD, was the fact that it's multi-taskable, has a radio, has a sleek sexy UI and actually has a product member of the Microsoft Zune team frequenting the ABI forums, listening to feedback, criticism etc *probably*. The ABI forums are great btw.

hmmm ok seems the Sansa Sandisk is getting good feedback from many things, but don't you think 128kbps is horrible quality? or is that unnoticable?
and how big is this Zune HD? is it light to carry while jogging?

I really can't stand setting up these headphones, I tried them couple of times.. not comfortable at all tbh.

128 kbps is average. Most people can't tell the difference between 128 kbit or 192 kbit or VBR etc. I can make out the differences however, since I've been somewhat of an audiophile for the past few years. I don't personally care though as I mostly download 128 kbps mp3 I find. As long as it's been ripped from a proper source and sounds good (unlike those fucken radio recorded crap), I'm happy.
My opinion would be to use standard 192 KBPS VBR format for all your MP3s. The Zune HD's quite light and compact. I'll take a pic tonight and you can see how tiny it seems in my hand.

Either you look for in-ear monitors or streetphones like this. http://www.koss.com/koss/kossweb.nsf/p?o...^sc^KSC75. I had a set of these many years ago and they are awesome. They look great when worn and sound great. I took a gamble on a pair of Denon IEMs. I've taken a pic here.
