All players making use of the StarHub Mumble server please take note of the following.

1. Mumble server/client changes.

Update your mumble to version 1.2 Stable available for download from http://mumble.sourceforge.net/. You will be asked to uninstall the old client before you can install the new version. You will need to redo the Audio wizard and..

YOU MUST CREATE A CERTIFICATE WHEN ASKED TO DO SO. OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONNECT TO THE NEW MUMBLE SERVER.

During the creation of this authentication certificate, put the nick you want to be seen as on the server, email address is optional.

Upon connecting to the new server, accept the server certificate sent to your client despite it failing to validate. This is because the certificate used by the server is a autogenerated certificate not registered against any Certificate Authority such as Verisgn etc.

You will then be able to join the lobby and any other public rooms created. You can create a public/private room within the War Rooms channels but in order to do so, you must REGISTER yourself on the server by right clicking on your own nick and clicking on REGISTER.

To create a new room under War Rooms, right click on War Rooms and click Add. You can put a password on the room after you created the room by right clicking on the room followed by Edit and filling in the password field. If you require to access password protected rooms, you can add the password by adding it to the Access Tokens option in the Server menu of your mumble client. Such rooms are not permanent and will cease to exist once the last person leave the room. PLEASE KEEP THINGS CIVIL AND ORDERLY.

Contact me via email (gameadmin at maxonline dot com dot sg) if you need a permanent room created where only certain members can access (clan channels). Information required will be room name and the list of registered nicks on the server that is allowed to enter the room. Not all request will be entertained. Partial information will DEFINITELY not be entertained.

Report issues to the email address mentioned. Make sure you read the documentations or manuals before asking question.

2. The new mumble server IP is 202.156.3.185 port 64738. The existing mumble server will cease operation on 28th Dec 2009.

As always, all rights reserved, especially the one that allows me to deny you any access and usage of the free services provided without reason. Play nice or play elsewhere.

Mumble 1.2 supports a new audio codec called 'CELT' which you might be willing to try. It allows for better audio quality and faster transmission of audio packets etc. To set your Mumble to use CELT, go to Configure -> Settings -> Audio Input:

Set the Quality tab to 40 Kb/sec.
Set Audio per packet to 20 ms.

The line below 'Audio per packet' should now read '54.0 Kbit/s (Audio 40.1, CELT, Position 0.0, Overhead 14.0)' or something similar. Setting the Quality tab lower will force the codec back to Speex (Old Mumble 1.1.8 codec).

Setting it higher will force it to use CELT. Use whatever you like and test your upload rate by holding down your talk button and using a program like Netlimiter or something similar. As long as it doesn't eat up all your upload and inflate your ping in-game, you should be good to go.

Actually CELT is enabled when its 33.0kb/s instead of 40. Shall try using CELT for a few days and see how it does.

EDIT:

Tried CELT, not very sure of the difference TBH. No real change on my side.
