Here's the follow-up to the recent news post about the CS1.6 tournament organised by the Emperors network in Dubai, UAE.
The actual format is 2 tournaments leading up to another bigger tournament, which can be considered as 2 qualifiers and the grand finals. The top 2 teams from both qualifiers will play in the grand finals. The prizes for the qualifiers are AED2500 (~US$680) for the winners and free play time at Emperors for members of the runner-up team. The grand final's prizes are AED5000 (~US$1361) for 1st, AED2000 (~US$544) for 2nd and AED1000 (~US$272) for 3rd place. The tournament held on 8th Jan was the first qualifier, the Dubai qualifier, which was for teams from Dubai only. Results:
Winner:
Impulse - whmsy/havoK/add1ct/shazak/jap
Runner-Up:
Team Giga - jamal/danger/Rani/Oji/mahdi
The 2nd qualifier, the Abu Dhabi qualifier, will be for teams from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain only. The top 2 here will receive the prizes for qualifiers and will go on to play in the grand finals. It will be held this coming Friday (15th Jan). The grand finals will be held on the Friday after that which is the 22nd of January, and most probably in double-elimination format.
I should add that Emperors is now very well set up. The PCs are great and they have some really slick hardware (old school Plantronics DSP-500!). One issue are the widescreens which are total BS for CS1.6 (similar to the ones that Que Club now has in their new extension). There's one 5v5 stage with a dedicated server, and a separate 'special' area. The charges are AED5/hour generally and AED10/hour for the 5v5 stage and the special area. Smoking is not allowed inside Emperors. The special area is a separate room with slightly better hardware, slightly bigger monitors, and you are also allowed to smoke. It's probably for the WOW fags. There's also another room with consoles and HDTVs, where I saw some guys playing Pro Evo on a PS3. I've attached a few random crappy pics that I received from someone, just for the heck of it.
Thanks to whmsy for the tournament info (and havoK too).

The Emperors Gaming Network (of Dubai, UAE) had closed some time ago for renovations and to 'refresh' the place, just like other networks, some of which are already done while some are still in the process.
Emperors will be opening again very soon and have announced a CS1.6 tournament which will be held on 8th January 2010. It's said that a good amount of money is up for the winners but the amount is currently unknown. Will update this as soon as we know.
Extra: the tournament is for teams from Dubai only, no teams from other emirates (eg. Abu Dhabi, Al Ain) are to participate in this tournament. This also means that the tournament will start and end on time instead of dragging past midnight into the next morning. Teams from other emirates will be able to participate in another tourney to be held very soon after this one.
