ESL|SaSa has kindly agreed to start some online cups for QuakeLive for the Middle East Region. Tentative date for the start of the first online cup is middle of February. Fixed dates and other info will be posted here as soon as we receive them. CS 1.6 Fun cups may also be possible soon.
General idea of a fun cup:
In a fun cup, teams/participants solely play in the tournament to gauge their skill levels vs. each other, win some fame and top seed spots for use in official tournaments in the future. Fun cups usually last 1 whole day or just 1 night. Tournament format is most likely single-elimination, best of 3 maps format.

It is with great disappointment I announce that the first and only QuakeLive cup hosted in the Middle East has been disgraced with the presence of a cheater. A "cheater" is someone who seeks to win a game through unfair means or devices. In this case, a Saudi Arabian and a Venezuelan player schemed to win the MEA Cup by having the VE individual play all the SA player's matches for him.
In the ESL MEA GameOn Cup Final Playoffs, MaNi_DaDuDe was caught and banned for using another skilled player to play MaNi's games for him. The skilled player used was lbrujo - a mid-skilled dueller from Venezuela.
MaNi's play became suspicious at the start of the GameON MEA Cup Final PlayOffs brackets where he made his mark by defeating his opponents with huge score margins, even beating me with convincing scores.
It should be noted that about 2 weeks ago, MaNi was a low-tier duel player with all his games prior to the playoffs being quite close with other low-level opponents. MaNi's sudden increase in skill, aim and movement coupled with other various inconsistencies such as different player model, sensitivity, rocket-jumping style, map patterns immediately set off a red flag with some of the more experienced playoffs contestants.
Upon filing match protests in ESL and contacting "SyncError" from idsoftware, we were told that MaNi was indeed using someone else to play his games for him.
Gunman's chat log with an idsoftware employee : http://www.gaming420.com/SyncError.txt
SyncError's e-mail reply to me:
Quote:MaNi_DaDuDe and Ibrujo were both playing on an IP address associated with another player located in Venezula. The three player accounts involved in this matter have been banned, and the results of any matches MaNi_DaDude participated in may be invalid.
Sincerely,

I was told by some of the ESL staff that 'fake players' will be disqualified and infracted 6 penalty points. Taking into account for the past wins MaNi has over the other MEA participants, ESL might have to restart the whole bracket. As we have just filed support tickets with ESL, we'll have to see how the situation progresses.
Credits go to Gunman_csz and memph1s, since if it wasn't for these two quake sleuths, a cheater would have won the tournament with none being the wiser.
Check out this page to read the cheater's defence.
I don't understand the desperation in having to stoop so low to win "prizes" and some undeserved fame, MaNi. If you'd gone through the honest route, you had a very good chance of placing 3rd and winning, to put it in your words, your "free PC", at the least.

TINY EDIT: Added two ZTN demos of lbrujo playing an ESL cup game with MaNi's nickname, and lbrujo duelling in his own account. Download them here.
